Abstract

The paper is an extension of minor research project titled effect ofRagi (Eleusione coracana) for the development of value added products and their nutritional implication. The present study was carried out to utilize, develop and evaluate value added products of underutilized grains like Ragi for their sensory characterstics. The products which Uttpam, with in the ratio of 75 per cent semolina and 25 per cent Ragi flour. Cutlets, with in the ratio of 60 per cent potato, 15 per cent bread and 25 per cent Ragi, 60 per cent bread. Disco wheel with in the ratio of 60 per cent bread, 15 per cent vegetables and 25 per cent of Ragi, respectively. All the products were found acceptable by the panal of judges. It is concluded that all the four products viz., uttpam, cutlets, disco wheel, were acceptable in terms of colour, flavour wise uttpam, Disco wheel (90 %) liked very much as cutlets (75 %) liked moderately. Over all acceptability of uttpam, disco wheel were high whereas cutlets was least acceptable. So, incorporation of Ragi flour into existing dietary pattern is very beneficial because of its therapeutic benefits.

Abstract

The aim of this work was to verify the effects of water soluble fraction (WSF) of diesel fuel in liver of Channa punctatus. The fishes were exposed to sublethal concentration of WSF of diesel (5%-DF1, 10%-DF2, 15%-DF3, 20%- DF4 and 25%-DF5) for 21 days. Significant histopathological lesions observed were dilation, congestion, thrombosis formation in hepatoportal blood vessel, melanomacrophage centers, hemolysis, hemorrhage, lymphocytic infiltration between the hepatocytes and necrosis & fibrosis in hepatocytes were the prominent changes in liver. The histological analysis showed increasing damages dose-dependents and time-dependents.

Abstract

Di-n-butyl phthalate is a low volatile chemical added to plastic, paint, glue, hair spray, toys and house hold products. Human being and animal are exposed to di-n-butyl phthalate through air, water and food contamination in the environment. For present study, a group of six infection free rats were acclimatized under laboratory condition and divided in to two groups three in each. Group I (control) albino rat fed commercial feed with corn oil. Group II albino rats were given 50mg/kg/day di-n-butyl phthalate with corn oil for 2 week. The study revealed that haemaglobin gm%, RBC and lymphocytes were decreased, 14.6% to 7.8%, 6.17-4.19 millions/cmm and 78 to 44% respectively. However, number of neutrophils were increased .A significant decrease in cholesterol level (121- 51 mg/dl), protein (10 to 4.6 gm/dl) and glucose was observed in di-n-butyl phthalate exposed rats.
